He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Akin and Marie Akin (Davis); and his siblings, Ruth Windmiller, Marjorie Akin and Robert Akin.
He is survived by: his wife Martha White; his children, Leigh Ann Simmons (Doug), Michael Akin, Mark Akin (Leah), Beth Ann O'Donnell (Allen) and Amy Gooden (Jeff); and his stepchildren, Jack, Jerry, Robin, Brian and Brent. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Contributions may be given to the Elkhart Moose Lodge.
