He was predeceased by: his parent Edythe Opal Winstead (Hoover); his sons, Steve Dixon and John Dixon; and his stepfather Maylon Winstead. He is survived by: his wife Sara Dixon; his children, Kathy Ellerbrook (Larry) and Douglas Dixon (Patricia); his stepson Kenneth Blake Lowe (Nancy); and his grandsons, Michael Ellerbrook (Lindsey) and Clay Ellerbrook (Mallory). He is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren.
