He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Derks and Matilda Derks (Walter); and his siblings, Althea Kern, Theo, Cleo, Earl and Walter Derks.

He is survived by: his wife Jeanette "Jean" Derks; his children, Richard Derks of Fraser, MI and Rita Preslin (Brian); his grandchildren, Eric, Dustin Perez, Allyssa, Nathan, Sierra Derks, Seth (Angela), Luke Justus (Anna), Aiden and Jack Preslin; and his sister Patricia Wells of St. Joseph, MI. He is also survived by 4 Great Grandchildren.
