He was predeceased by: his parents, Louise Smith (Hale) and James Cordell Smith; his wife Audrey Smith; his sister Tonya Coan; his brothers-in-law, Terry Bamberger and Ray Wilhite; and his grandchildren, David Smith Jr., Shawn Beaty Jr. and Amaya Oaks.

He is survived by: his children, April Jennings (Jeff), Teresa Elsfelder (Kenny), David Smith, Gene Smith (Lillie), Malissa Oaks-Yeager, Heather Williams and Rosemary Durbin; his siblings, Sharon Wilhite, Phyllis Bamberger, Susan Horvath (Les) and Donald Smith; and his grandchildren, Aleasha Berfanger, Jarrett Elsfelder, Jessika Elsfelder, Shane Lynn, Brianna Smith, Katie Smith, Arieonnia Smith, Cheyanna Curry, Starrlyn Smith, Sabena Faith Oaks, Mikey Yeager, Benjamen Yeager, Krischeanna Yeager, Alycisa Oaks, Kazte, Ricki Durbin, Kathy Durbin, Jackie Williams, Antonia Grant, Artianna Grant, Jessica Grant, Trinity Williams, Alexandra Morton and Kenny. He is also survived by three great grandsons.
