He was predeceased by: his father Floyd Sutton; his former wife Martha Ann Rundus Sutton; his parents-in-law, Onesimus (OJ), Clara Rundus, Henry and Evelyn Galbraith; and his brothers-in-law, William Galbraith, Pat Bryant and Wayne Thomas.

He is survived by: his mother Harriette Sutton; his wife Deborah; his sons, Timothy Sutton (Kirstyn), Andrew Sutton, John McEwen Jr. and Troy McEwen (Candy); his grandchildren, John McEwen III, Austin, Edward McEwen and Jessika Collins; his siblings, Dianne Wise (Daniel), Nancy DiGuglielmo (Vince) and David Sutton (Robin); and his siblings-in-law, Henrietta Sutton (Denis), Linda Riggs (Morris), Mary Tesser (Mike), Esther Thomas, Grace Maynard (Charlie), George Galbraith (Jane) and Paul Rundus (Gayle). He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.
