He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Jefferson and Martha Elizabeth Higdon (Bruner); and his siblings, Norma Jean Ice, Tommie Lou Higdon and David Higdon.

He is survived by: his sons, Stan Higdon of Evansville, IN and Hugh Higdon of Evansville, IN; and his former wife Janice Higdon-Burton of Evansville, IN. He is also survived by eight nieces; and two nephews.
