He was predeceased by: his parents, John Wellington Wells and Arlene Wells (Holbrook); his wife Norma L. Jacobs; his son Russell John Wells; and his brothers, John and Noel Wells.
He is survived by: his children, Tamara Wells-Thornton (Tony) of Columbia City and Carl G. Wells (Julie) of Acworth, GA; his grandchildren, Belinda Rider, Bethany Smarker, Brytnee Heck, Brieann Wells, Eliza Wells, Natalie Wells, Isaac Wells, Becky Thornton, Michael Thornton, TJ Thorton, Ashley Thornton and Erin Denfeld; and his siblings, Yvonne Passwater of Florida, Janine Erlenbaugh (Marty) of Florida and Dennis Wells (Sue) of Florida.
