He is survived by: his wife Cora Essex (Johnson); his children, Belinda Moore (Bryant) and TaWanna Harris (Ervin); his grandchildren, Brian and A'Milya; and his siblings, Ernest Essex Sr. (Elizabeth), Frances Milan of Fort Wayne, James Essex (Velma), Mary Perry, Mary Essex and Wilma Everette (Paul). He is also survived by other loving relatives and friends.

“I worked from time to time with Wil at Pretrial Services (It was a job that I kept going back to from time to time.) Wil was always there. He was the hardest working man that I know. He worked two full-time jobs! We worked together during my occasional third shift or when our first and third shifts overlapped (He never left until his work was done.) I always felt we had things under control when Wil was there. He could bring peace to the chaos. Rest in peace, Wilbert Esses.”
