He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Spaid and Emily Spaid (Hall); his daughter Carolyn Watson; and his siblings, Mary Eldridge and Glenn Spaid.

He is survived by: his wife Eva Spaid (Cole) of French Lick; his children, Josie Spaid of Paoli, Jonathan Spaid of Paoli, Joseph Spaid of Paoli, Jennifer Spaid of Paoli, Russell Lee Spaid Jr. of Danville, IL, Martin Spaid of Danville, IL and Kelly Perez of Illinois; and his siblings, Violet Hoover of Avon, Brenda Viles of Plainfield, Steve Spaid of Minnesota, Frank Spaid of Indianapolis, Lloyd Spaid of Indianapolis and Lawrence Spaid of Indianapolis.
