He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Gardner and Mary "Gussie" Gardner; his wife Bobbi Gardner (Enochs); his son Scott Gardner; and his brother Harold Whitson.

He is survived by: his sons, Michael Gardner (Deanna) of Franklin, IN and Stephen Gardner (Billi) of Indianapolis, IN; and his daughter-in-law Carol Gardner of Indianapolis, IN. He is also survived by six grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
