He was predeceased by: his parents, John Francis Hartwell and Bertha Irene Hartwell; his siblings, Betty Similies and Samuel "Jack" Hartwell; and his brother-in-law Hank Sewell.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara A. Hawley-Hartwell; his sons, James Allen Hartwell and Robert Wesley Hartwell (Melissa); his siblings, Joyce Sewell, Judy Lee (Alan), Joe Hartwell (Nancy) and Gerald Hartwell (Mary); and his grandchildren, Jakob, Brooklyn, Zachary, Owen, Oliver and Matthew. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
