He was predeceased by: his parents, John Swinford and Mary Edna Swinford; and his siblings, Beverly Swinford (Crane), Bonnie Tatge (Swinford) and Billy Swinford.

He is survived by: his wife Kathy Swinford; his daughters, Debra Swinford-Allender (late Mike), Cindy Rodgers (James) and Linda Kartje (Joe); his grandchildren, Christopher Swinford, Jenna Gensic (John), Joseph R. Kartje, Benjamin Kartje (Lindsay), Zachary Kartje (Kirstie), Alexa and Sophia Kartje; his great grandchildren, Mikan, Anica, Drexler, Finley Gensic, Noah and Neil Kartje; and his siblings, Brenda Williams (late Mike), Betty Williamson (Bob), Barry Swinford (Eleonore) and Bruce Swinford (Mary Ann).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Highland Police and Fire Departments.
