He was predeceased by: his parents, Merle Chapin and Mabel Chapin (Bowman); and his siblings, Larry Chapin, Ricky Chapin, Buddy Chapin and Sandra Horsley.
He is survived by: his wife Sheila Dillon; his children, Michael Chapin of New Haven, IN, Julie Ferwerda (James Michael) and Amy Saxton (Steven) of New Haven, IN; his brother Dennis Chapin (Connie); and his grandchildren, Jessica Fraser (Michael), Michael Saxton (Michelle), Zachary Simmons, Ashley Chapin, Heather Aff (Aaron), Megan Geisleman and Jennifer Miller (Andy). He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren.
