He was predeceased by: his father Howard Harlan; his daughter Virginia L. Bell; and his siblings, Weldon, Argyle, Orville, Marie Scheiman, Ruth Dickerson, Betty Leininger, Louise Double and Noreen Hougendobler.
He is survived by: his wife Sarah "Kathy" Hougendobler (Goodwin); his children, Dr. Duane Hougendobler (Jenny) of Fort Wayne, IN, Diane Gearhart (Gary) of Huntington, IN, Christie Grove (Steve) of Tampa, FL and Emily Ormiston (Dave) of Clearwater, FL; his grandchildren, Matthew Rupley (Dawn), William, Daniel Hougendobler, Kenneth Bell (Paula), Landon Grove, Jill Eltzroth (Noel), Janelle Wiley (Doug), Amanda Bell (Brittany), Kate Person (Kelton) and Sophia Grove; and his great grandchildren, Lexin, Corah, Blaise Rupley, Eli, Brit Eltzroth, Kate, Ian Wiley, Micah, Holden and Brennen Bell.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the New Hope Church building fund in care of McElhaney-Hart/Deal Rice Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.
