She is survived by: her mother Mary Jo Nelson (Wilson); her former husband Evan Houston; her children, Bailey Miller, Mary Kate Houston, Laney Houston, Eric Houston and Alex Houston; her father Bill Nelson; her siblings, Michelle Behrndt, Brian Nelson and Mike Nelson; her grandson Charlie Mahoney; and her pet Lily.

In lieu of flowers, she wishes donations be made to the Lafayette School Corporation to create a grant for teachers in her name. Donations can be made on her Facebook fundraiser page.
