He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles S. Thoennes and Alberta Thoennes (Boes); his son Charles Howard Thoennes; his siblings, Carolyn Thoennes, Jack Thoennes and Mary Ann; and his siblings-in-law, Dick Haan, Don Siefers and Lois Thoennes.

He is survived by: his wife Elise Thoennes of Lafayette; his children, Jennifer James (Warren) of San Jose, CA, Jeffrey Thoennes of Fort Myers, FL and Suzanne Rottler (Matt) of Orlando, FL; his siblings, Phyllis Siefers of Pocotello, ID, Betty Pallotto (Mike) of Lady Lake, FL, Kay Klinker (Don) of Lafayette, Gordon Thoennes (Cindy) of Fishers, IN and Greg Thoennes (Kathy) of West Lafayette; and his grandsons, Ethan James and Scott James. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or Clarks Hill Christian Church in loving memory of David.
