She was predeceased by: her parents, George Vanderwalt and Bertha Vanderwalt (Maus); her husband Rev. Richard F. Hempenius; and her siblings, Hugh Vanderwalt and Deletia Clawson.

She is survived by: her children, Michelle Hjerpe (Marc) of Phoneix and Craig Hempenius of West Branch, Iowa. She is also survived by one grandchild and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Springs Terrace.
