He was predeceased by: his parents, John "Jack" and Rosemary Schmitz (Roswarski); his wife Kathy S. Garrett; his brothers, John, James, Allan and Donald Schmitz; and his granddaughter Ruby Manley.

He is survived by: his children, Derek Schmitz (Andrea) of Chicago, IL and Amanda Manley (James) of Lafayette; his sister Susan Schmitz of Lafayette; and his grandchildren, Mae, Annie Schmitz, Arlo and Amos Manley.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church in loving memory of Doug.
