He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Lane and Mary Lane (Humphrey); his former spouse Shirley A. Everett; his wife Barbara Madary Reel; and his daughters, Mary Ann Byrd and Kathy L. Reel.

He is survived by: his children, Robert L. Lane II (Kathy) of Frankfort, Trina L. Page (Don) of Lafayette, William M. Reel of Punta Gorda, FL, Barbara J. Seamans (Kenny) of Battle Ground and Carla S. Reel of Lafayette; and his siblings, Robert L. Lane of Monticello, Sharon Galloway (John) of New Palestine and Jenny Ready-Hall (John) of North Ft. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
