He was predeceased by: his parents, Josh Akemon and Elsie Akemon (Spurlock); and his sister Carolyn Williams. He is survived by: his wife Barbara A. Akemon (Caldwell); his children, Charles D., Dawn A. Barngrover (C. J.) and Joshua M. Akemon (Bailey); and his siblings, Lois Jean (Harry), Shirley Coahran (William) and Bob Akemon. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
