He is survived by: his former wife Judith Smallwood; his wife Anne Gulbransen; his close friend Anne Painter; his daughters, Amy Painter (Elizabeth Bauder) of Monticello and Patricia Painter (Joe Minniear) of Lafayette; and his sister Susan Runyon of Linden.
