He was predeceased by: his parents, John Edward Linder Jr. and Mary Etta Hickman (Wilkerson); his son Russell Linder; and his parents-in-law, Ernest and Virginia Ruhlander.
He is survived by: his wife Mary M. Ruhlander of Battleground; his siblings, Robert Northrup West Lafayette (Helen), Wayne Linder of Battleground, Kathy Gallivan and Patrick Fitzsimmons of Lafayette; his children, Heather Evans (Mike) of West Lafayette, Jamie Gick of Lafayette, John E Linder III (Tina) of Rossville, GA and Christopher Linder of Battleground; and his grandchildren, Kodie Evans of Zach Conn, Gabrielle Jones, Ashley Evans, Andrea Linder, Nathaniel Jones and Gaige Linder.
