He was predeceased by : his parents, Herman Schickel and Clara Spath Schickel; his wife Joan Uhl Schickel; his siblings, Paul Schickel, Catherine Schickel, Mary Kirchgessner and Theresa Hobbins; and his son-in-law Tim Hardy.

He is survived by : his brother Herman Schickel, Jr. of Louisville, Kentucky; and his children, Marilyn Lines (John) of Loveland, Colorado, Robert Schickel (Teresa) of Lanesville, Janet Hardy of Louisville, Carol Hoehn (Joe) of Corydon and Donna Zutt (Michael) of Louisville. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

“Sending my sympathy to the family, what a wonderful man who shared his love, faith, time, money, laughter, prayers, you name it, he gave. I remember being a young girl and we would go over and get eggs from them. Thought from that time on, that's what married couples in love must look like. Now they are together once again. What a reunion that must have been.”
