He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil V. Tolbert and Audra Mae Tolbert (Hallaway); his wife Betty Jean Davidson; and his siblings, Lena Marie Moffatt and Charles H. Tolbert.
He is survived by: his children, Deborah Jean Dyal (Bob) of Loogootee, Jessie Tolbert of Shoals, Gregory Mark Tolbert of Loogootee, William Vance Tolbert (Kathy) of Montgomery and Timothy J. Tolbert (Darla) of Montgomery; and his sister Dorothy Mae Beaty of West Baden. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.
