He was predeceased by: his brother Elmer Topel (Pat); and his parents, Elmer Topel and Marie Topel. He is survived by: his wife Helen Topel; his daughter Mary Ellen Preusser (Raymond); his grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan and Raven Preusser; and his siblings, June Mekenas (late Ernie), Janet Harvey (late Russ) and Shirley O'Connor (late Richard).

In lieu of flowers memorial may be given towards the Saint Jude Police League.
