He was predeceased by: his wife Marlys Benes; his parents, John Benes and Frances Benes; his brothers, George Benes and Jerry Benes (late Betty); and his sister-in-law Joyce Dykstra (late Fred).

He is survived by: his son James D. Benes (Melanie); his granddaughters, Rylee and Taylor Benes; and his sisters-in-law, Paula Benes and Heidi Van Laten (John).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim's name to Lansing Christian School or Illiana Christian High School.
