She was predeceased by: her husbands, Ervin Tanis and Marvin Peterson; and her siblings, Bernard Swieringa, Wilbur Swieringa and Kathryn Smith.
She is survived by: her children, Earl Tanis (late Joanne), Ken Tanis (Joy), Martha Foster (Mike), Bill Tanis (Reva), Rhoda Boonstra (Jim), Mary Pittman (Randall) and Beth Novak (Bob); her grandchildren, Mark, Keith, Jason, Steven, Kevin, Kathy, Traci, Tim, Andy, John, Carolyn, Melanie, Amanda, Christy, Jeff, Heather, Dan, Randy, Amy, Cole, Becki and Jon; and her brother-in-law Sam Smith. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Nellie's name to World Of Life Bible Institute, Wycliffe Associates or The Gideons International.
