He was predeceased by: his wife Margaret Smolar (Chermak); his brothers, John, Benedict, Rev. Joseph, Richard and George; and his parents, John Smolar and Theresa Smolar (Dedinsky).
He is survived by: his children, Robert Smolar of Schererville, James Smolar of Schererville, Nancy Weinberg (Daniel) of Munster and David Smolar (Yolanda) of Schererville; and his grandchildren, Brandon and Courtney Weinberg. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
