He was predeceased by: his parents, Pete Schmidt and Anna Glotzbach Schmidt; and his siblings, Martha Stumler and William "Butch" Schmidt. He is survived by: his wife Hilda Schmidt; his children, Debbie Stith (Mike), Carol Andry (Marc), Terry Schmidt (Cathy), Angie Blackman, Dennis Schmidt, Alfred Schmidt Jr. (Kim) and Jackie Hughes (Tony); and his siblings, Jim Schmidt (Janet), Rosella Bickel, Bob Schmidt (Linda) and Marvin Schmidt (Lisa). He is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and future great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, July 1st 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150). A burial will be held on Tuesday, July 1st 2025 at 10:00 AM. A Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 1st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (8310 St John Rd, Floyds Knobs, IN 47119).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Alfred's memory can be made to St. Croix Hospice, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
