He was predeceased by: his siblings, Herbert, Richard, Nettie Haskell (Edward), Jones Haskell and Monica Haskell (Jerry).

He is survived by: his parents, Herman Schmidt and Mary Schmidt (Schmelz); his wife Carolyn Susie (Shelton); his children, Lezlie (Nick), Barth, Cindy Orem (David) of New Albany and Laurabeth Schmidt of Louisville; his grandsons, Bradley Orem and Benjamin Orem; his brother William Schmidt (Anna) of New Albany; and also, Donna Schmidt (Clark) and Banet of Floyds Knobs. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
