He was predeceased by: his parents, Arnom Cheek and Ada Cheek (Tarter); his siblings, Paul Cheek, Joseph Cheek and Allie Ruth Grooms; and his son-in-law Ed Mitchell.

He is survived by: his wife Roberta Frances Cheek (White); his children, Beverly Brownfield (Doug) and Jason Suttles; and his stepchildren, Betty Frazier (Rick), Doreen Mitchell, Donald Settles, Jr. (Ileana), Brian Settles (Chasity), Donna Lanahan (Doug) and Kimberly T. R. Livorno (Scott).
