He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard C. Whitfield and Thelma L. Whitfield (Cannon); his brother Richard Whitfield; and his granddaughter Brandi Branch. He is survived by: his wife Florence "Aileen" Whitfield (Taylor); his children, Kimberly Hurst (David) of Boonville, IN, Karen Fitzpatrick (David) of Terre Haute, IN and Charles Whitfield (Tammy) of Boonville, IN; and his grandchildren, Scott (Cynthia), Anthony (Monica), Andrew (Kristen), Christina (Cody), Brandon (Jessica), Daniel (Chelsey), Matthew, Charles (Bailey), Sherri and Kimberly. He is also survived by 26 great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren.
