He was predeceased by: his father Elmer B. Kissel; his wife Phyllis M. Elliott; and his mother Pauline Kissel (Ralph). He is survived by: his stepdaughters, Amy Elliott Ubelhor (Ted) of Evansville, Kate Elliott of Nevada City and Nora Elliott of Medina; his grandchildren, Elliott Benjamin, Emma Claire Ubelhor, Jared Patrick, Nicklaus David Epplen and Noah Wendell Tecklin; and his brothers, Reverend Tony Kissel and Tim Kissel. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
