She was predeceased by : her parents, James Bates and Annabelle Bates (Gibbs); her husband Melvin Dotson; and her brothers, Orville and Michael Bates.

She is survived by : her siblings, Sharon Payne (Terry) and Dan Bates (Brenda); her stepchildren, Diana Morris (Brian), Sonny Dotson (Angie) and Scott Dotson (Holly); and her nieces and nephews, Tara Eisenhauer (Greg), Kara Bobo (Evan), Michelle Reine (Kevin), Craig Payne and Brian Bates (Tamy).
