It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Wendell Leon Azbell of North Vernon, Indiana, who passed away on April 8, 2024, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Thurman Azbell and Lova Azbell (Snyder); his wife Carol Long; his daughter Renae Clarkson; and his siblings, Maurice, Darle, Merril, Dean Azbell, Ruth Green and Janet Ballenger.
He is survived by : his children, Troy Azbell (Jason Gorham) of North Vernon and Sonja Mills (Rob) of North Vernon; his son-in-law Tom Clarkson of North Vernon; his grandchildren, Amanda Spurgeon (Brian Dickson) of Greensburg, Rachel McCrory (Zach) of Columbus, Kyle Azbell (Evelyn) of Franklin, Jake Azbell (Andrea) of Georgetown, Payton Azbell (Sara Denton) of Nashville, Dawson Azbell of Riddleton, Brandon Mills (Rachel) of North Vernon and Jared Mills (Abby) of Manhatton, Kansas; and his great grandchildren, Brendon Spurgeon of Greensburg, Ruby Spurgeon of Greensburg, Jace Mills of North Vernon, Piper Mills of North Vernon, Linda McCrory of Columbus and Mason Mills of Manhatton, Kansas..
Visitation was held on Thursday, April 11th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday, April 12th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home (420 S State St, North Vernon, IN 47265). A masonic service was held on Thursday, April 11th 2024 at 7:30 PM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Friday, April 12th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, April 12th 2024 at the Vernon Cemetery (315 S Pike St, Vernon, IN 47282).
Memorials may be made in honor of Wendell to the First United Methodist Church, Gentiva Hospice or Activity Department at Autumn Trace.
