He was predeceased by : his parents, Minuard Russell and Delta Russell (Lee); his former life partner Barbara Russell (Lewis); his son Vanry Richard Russell; and his brother Vanry Leon Russell.

He is survived by : his wife Beverly Jean Russell of Petersburg; his sons, Troy Russell (Anita) of Crestwood, Wade Russell (Julie) of Lafayette and Greg Russell (Laura) of Greenfield, Indiana; and his stepsons, Jimmy Goodpasture (Wanda) of Petersburg and Mark Goodpasture (Dawn) of Petersburg. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
