He was predeceased by: his parents, Marion Chavis and Clesta Chavis (Greer); his siblings, Pat, Emmitt Chavis, Sarah Jones and Mary Whittaker; and his grandchildren, Norman Luther Chavis II and Lanae Madison.
He is survived by: his wife Agnes E. Chavis (Greene); his children, Stacey Easley (Gregg) of Newburgh, Damon Madison, Norman Chavis (Angela) of Princeton, Denver Chavis Jr (Tina) of Evansville, Cheryl Madison of Evansville, Jackie Chavis of Evansville and Breanna Chavis of Vincennes; and his grandchild Kabrielle "Mikah" Johnson. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
