He was predeceased by: his parents, Brigadiers William Herbert and Ivy Payton; his siblings, Colonels Beulah Craig (Joe), Orville Payton (Betty), Donald Payton, Lt Colonel Muriel Hull, Elizabeth Budry and Ruth Payton DeArment Adair (Donald DeArment); and his former wife Margaret "Peggy" Payton.
He is survived by: his children, Rich Payton (Heidi), Jeff Payton (Barbie), Barbara Payton and Matt Payton; his grandchildren, Elyse Payton (Zach Anderson), Lindsay McDougal (Brad), Kelley Kobold (Matt), Alec Payton (Meaghan) and Kelsay Payton (Matt Kloeffler); his great grandchildren, Killian Payton, Ellowyn Payton and Brodie McDougal; his siblings, David Payton (Judy) and Evangeline Howard (Paul); and his siblings-in-law, Eunice Payton and Larry Hull. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
