He was predeceased by: his spouse Florice J. Houston; and his son Alex Liggins. He is survived by: his children, Mary Jones of South Bend, Wanda Love of South Bend, Juanita of South Bend, Johnny Jenkins of South Bend and Cheryl Oyedele of Indianapolis; and his sister-in-law Freddie Mae Houston of Chicago. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 78 great and great-great grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
