He was predeceased by: his father Richard Grooms; and his brother Robert Grooms. He is survived by: his mother Patricia Grooms (Church) of Granger; his wife Candace Grooms (Milo-Milbourn) of South Bend; his sons, William Grooms of Mishawaka, Joseph Grooms of South Bend and Robert Grooms of South Bend; his stepchildren, Jaqueline Lewis of South Bend, Sean Milbourn (Jeanie) of South Bend, Brian Milbourn of Florida and Kevin Milbourn of Mishawaka; his sisters, Sherri Grooms of Granger and Cathy L. Fox of Brownsburg, IN; and his niece Tricia Winrott of Elkhart, IN.
