He was predeceased by : his parents, Benjamin Harpenau and Alvina Harpenau (Hagedorn); his former life partners, Wilma Rickenbaugh and Wilma Harpenau; his children, Rita Harmon and Ronnie VanConia; and his brother Bernard Harpenau.

He is survived by : his wife Madeline Harpenau of Tell City; his daughter Sharon Schneider (Nick) of Bloomfield, IN; his son-in-law Mike Harmon of Tell City; his siblings, Leonard Harpenau (Mary Pat) of Kansas City and Mary Meunier of Santa Claus; his grandchildren, Nicole Byrd (Jeremy), Stacey Brown (Troy), Darren VanConia and Thomas Lawalin; and his great grandchildren, Sydney, Xavier, Nixon, Jaeden, Jaclyn, Kylie, Caleb, Remington and Macie.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus or St. Paul Catholic Church.
