He was predeceased by : his son Jeffery D. Winters; and his sister Norma McMurray. He is survived by : his wife Viola Hopkins; his children, Jerry Hopkins (Nancy), Julie Leonard (Kenneth), Vivian Winters (Zavala) and Summer Crabtree; his grandchildren, Jerry Jr. (Ashley), Ricky (Tiffany), Micheal (London), Matthew (Ashley), Trudy (Nija), Malcolm (Tammy), Loraine, Amanda, Bella, Ryen and Bodhi; and his great grandchildren, Sara, Jack, Elin, Aire, Ellie, Crimson, Eric, Vance, Adrian, Nicholas, Katelyn and Jacob.
