He was predeceased by : his parents, Elbert "Nick" and Beulah Stewart Root; and his son Christopher Carson. He is survived by : his wife Loretta Dowell Root; his children, Bobby Ivey (China), Loretta Bryant (Daniel), Angie Root, Tammy Krick (Jerry), Jerry Root, Jr. (Rhiannon), Sherry Plank (Roger), Elizabeth Ivey, George Collester and Vallerie Freeman (Dustin); and his siblings, Michael Root, Roger Root, Marie Henry, Karen Lashbrooks, Judy Burris and Brenda Root. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren.
