He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil Frances Smith Sr. and Bertha Wetzel Smith; his wife Penny Jo Hankins Smith; his son Michael Smith; and his sisters, Mildred Nowaskie, Margaret Applen, Rose Perry and Shirley Vantlin.
He is survived by: his daughters, Robin Davis (Frank) of Bloomington Indiana and Shannon Carman (Mike) of Napoleon Indians; and his pet Rocky. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
