He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Wilbur Schmeltz and Nellie Schmeltz (Grise); his wife Ruth Schmeltz; his daughter Karen Sutter (Brad) of Barrington, IL; his daughters-in-law, Wanda Schmeltz, Madison and Kim Bope; his grandchildren, Adam Schmeltz (Jenny), Tyler Schmeltz (Jill), Jenna Sutter, Ellen Beehler (Joe), Erica Secrist (Kevan), Leah Arriola (Kyle), Elaine Annis (Jordan), Olivia Schmeltz and Stuart Schmeltz; his siblings, Arthur Schmeltz (Vicki), Dan Schmeltz (Lee), Doris Hesch (Dale) of Acton, MA and Kay Dosman (Marc); his sons, Kent and Gary Schmeltz; and his brother Richard Schmeltz. He was also cherished by 6 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Baugo Church of the Brethren or Family Christian Development Center.
