He was predeceased by: his mothers, Ruby Nelson and Frances Nelson (Kornegay); and his siblings, Mike, William and Ruby Elizabeth.
He is survived by: his former wife Jeanette Lehman; his children, Shelley McClain, Kim Johnson (Stan), Kelly, Kan and Darrin Nelson (Galenna); and his sisters, Alice Ferguson, Betty George, Martha Glover, Sandra Nelson Smith and Deborah Matta. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
