She was predeceased by: her parents, O. J. Thornton and Hazel Thornton (Brown); and her siblings, Helen Oller and Lloyd Thornton. She is survived by: her spouse Merle D. Spencer Sr.; her children, Debbie Green (Michael), Karen Burns (Kim), Hutchinson and Merle D. Spencer Jr. (Donna); and her sister Edith Stapleton. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
