He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Valentine and Margaret Mary Gast (Meyer); his wife Mabel Gast; his brothers, Lawrence and Ronald Gast; and his grandson Justin Barnaby.
He is survived by: his daughters, Nancy Shearer (Dale) and Ginger Redeker (Dave); his grandchildren, Casey Barnaby (Liz), Eric Barnaby (Micalah), Morgan, Logan, Payten Redeker, Jake and Michael Shearer (Lacey); his great grandchildren, Mason, Maddyn Barnaby, Daphnie, Lincoln Barnaby, Conner, Karter, Kade, Dallas Shearer, Baylor and Banks Heins; and his siblings, Robert Gast of Olathe, Terry Gast of Ottawa, LouAnn Korbe of Topeka and Marilyn Ullery of Topeka.
A memorial has been established to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo, with contributions sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
