He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Ummel and Catherine Ummel (Sargent); his stepson Craig Demel; and his siblings, Ralph Ummel, Evelyn Clark, Dorothy Bell and Phyllis Flaherty.
He is survived by: his former wife Beth L. Humphrey Demel; his wife Beth L. Ummel; his son Gary D. Ummel of Kansas City, Missouri; his stepdaughter Denise Schreiber (Bob) of Hoisington; his siblings, Don Ummel of Des Moines, Marvin Ummel of Lady Lake, Florida, Mildred Fink of Salina and Eunice Ummel of Salina; and his grandchildren, William Demel of Otis and Shani Stout (Kyle) of Hoisington. He is also survived by three great grandchildren.
