He was predeceased by : his parents, Preston Victor and Etta Johnson Showalter; his wife Virginia Faye Evans; his siblings, Ella Mae Showalter Johannsen and Jack Showalter; and his daughter-in-law Lou Ann Showalter.

He is survived by : his children, Joseph Showalter (Mia Barker) of Lyons, KS, Mark Showalter (Alicia) of Lyons, KS and Cathy Briggs (Pat) of Lyons, KS; and his grandchildren, Melissa Webb (Rick) of Lyons, KS, Mike Briggs of Great Bend, KS, Jeremy Showalter (Kristi) of Lyons, KS, Heather Hardesty (Kyle) of Bavaria, KS, Justin Showalter (Ashley) of Buhler, KS, Heidi Coe (Jarid) of Nickerson, KS, Matt Ankerholz (Hollie) of Lyons, KS and Nicole Sander (Irwin) of Haven, KS. He is also survived by sixteen great-grandchildren.
